Bob Carlyle's construction team fastened large leaves crafted with PEX and plastic mesh to 20ft PVC pipes cast into concrete buckets. When activating the wave machine, the result was a natural swaying motion that emulated the gentle flow of kelp. These Sargassum proxies set the scene for performers navigating the underwater forest.
The Air Bell was a powder-coated aluminum pipe structure rigged with a custom cargo net. This proxy was installed with the bottom half in the water so the performers could approach from underwater and climb into the air pocket of the Air Bell. As the action continued, SPFX Coordinator Richard Schwalm released the cargo net from the frame as the whole proxy dropped into the water to simulate a collapse from an attacking Crab Suit.
